DHL to pause US shipments over $800

DHL Express, a branch of Germany’s Deutsche Post, said it will stop shipping business-to-consumer packages worth more than $800 to people in the United States starting on April 21. This is because new customs rules in the U.S. are causing longer delivery times.

The announcement on the company’s website didn’t have a date, but it was made on Saturday.

DHL explained that the change is due to new customs regulations in the U.S. These new rules now require full customs processing for all packages worth over $800. Before, this only applied to packages over $2,500. The new rule started on April 5.

DHL said business-to-business shipments will still continue, although they might be delayed. Shipments under $800, whether for businesses or individuals, are not affected by the new rules.

The company said this suspension is only temporary. Last week, DHL also said it would continue sending packages from Hong Kong to the U.S., following the new customs rules. They also said they would support their customers in understanding the changes that will take effect on May 2.

This update comes after Hongkong Post announced it had stopped sending goods by sea to the U.S. It said the U.S. was being unfair after removing tax-free trade rules for packages from China and Hong Kong.
