Alphabet, Google’s parent company, reported strong earnings for the third quarter, beating expectations for both profits and revenue. Their shares rose by about 6% after the announcement.
Here are the numbers:
- Earnings per share: $2.12, compared to the expected $1.85
- Revenue: $88.27 billion, exceeding the forecast of $86.30 billion
- YouTube advertising revenue: $8.92 billion, above the expected $8.89 billion
- Google Cloud revenue: $11.35 billion, higher than the $10.88 billion expected
Alphabet’s revenue grew 15% from the same time last year. The cloud revenue saw significant growth, rising nearly 35% from $8.41 billion last year, thanks in part to AI services for business customers.
CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the company’s AI products are being widely used and are benefiting millions of users.
This strong performance comes ahead of earnings reports from other major tech companies like Meta, Microsoft, Apple, and Amazon this week.
Alphabet’s net income rose to $26.3 billion, or $2.12 per share, up from $19.7 billion, or $1.55 per share, from the same quarter last year. Google’s search business remains the largest source of revenue, generating $49.4 billion, a 12.3% increase from last year.
